About Dr Aneel Nihal
Dr Nihal completed his Orthopaedic training in the UK and an advanced clinical fellowship in Foot & Ankle surgery (1999-2000) in New York, USA. He commenced Orthopaedic registrar training in London (1993) and completed higher surgical (Specialist Registrar) training in Leeds (UK) from 1996 – 1999. Following this, he was awarded the UK Fellowship in Orthopaedics FRCS(Ed) (Ortho)in 1998.
Dr Nihal was appointed to a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgical post at a very large NHS teaching hospital in 2000. He also worked in two private hospitals in Hull, East Yorkshire, the BUPA and Hull Nuffield Hospitals. Dr Nihal worked in these posts until he emigrated to Australia in 2007. Dr Nihal was appointed as Senior Staff Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon at Logan Hospital , Meadowbrook, Metro South District , South Brisbane in June 2007.
Dr Nihal was extensively involved in the teaching and training of Griffith University medical students and junior doctors and has recently been awarded the academic title of Associate Professor at the Griffith School of Medicine, Gold Coast Campus. He is also a faculty member for the ASSET Surgical Teaching course conducted by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He also obtained the Australian Specialist qualification FRACS (Ortho) in August 2009.
Orthopaedic Training & Practice in the UK:
Dr Nihal completed all Orthopaedic training in the UK on accredited training programs from 1991-2000 in various hospitals including: St Helier Hospital, Surrey; Sutton Hospital, Surrey; Newham Hospital, London; St Georges Hospital, London; Kingston Hospital, London; Frimley Park Hospital Frimley, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds; Northallerton Hospital, Northallerton, North Yorkshire , St James University Hospital, Leeds; Hull Royal Infirmary Hull, Castle Hill Hospital East Yorkshire.
After finishing orthopaedic training as a registrar and senior registrar (specialist registrar) in London and Leeds training program schemes, Dr Nihal was awarded the “CCST” that is the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Orthopaedics by the UK Board of Training. Dr Nihal also successfully passed the highest College Examination – FRCS (Tr & Orth) and his name was placed in the UK Medical Specialist Register (GMC General Medical Council) as a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon. After Dr Nihal obtained CCST and FRCS (Tr & Ortho), he was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Teaching Hospital Trust, the largest teaching hospital in East Yorkshire, in 2000. He undertook trauma work at this hospital and elective procedures at nearby Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham.
Apart from working in two NHS hospitals in Hull, Dr Nihal also worked in private practice in two private hospitals also based in Hull, the BUPA hospital and Nuffield private hospital from 2000-2007.
Orthopaedic Practice in Australia:
Following emigration to Australia in 2007, for family reasons, Dr Nihal worked as a Staff Specialist Orthopaedic surgeon at Logan Hospital and later as a visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Gold Coast Hospital, Southport, providing both trauma & elective services to both areas. Dr Nihal was awarded the highest Orthopaedic qualification in Australia by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Melbourne in 2010 – the FRACS (Ortho). Dr Nihal has also been actively involved in teaching and training of both medical students as well as junior doctors.
Dr Nihal has been appointed as Associate Professor at the Griffith Medical School, Griffith University ,Gold Coast Campus , Southport , Gold Coast , Australia. He is also a faculty member for the ASSET surgical teaching course conducted by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
